Handheld grooving

8. Bust-a-groove

Out of the same mould as PaRappa the Rapper, Bust-a-groove was a 'Simple Simon'-like game where players had to follow commands on screen.

Released in 1998 for the Sony PlayStation, Bust-a-groove incorporated rhythm-based elements with fighting.

There were a colourful range of characters all of whom had different dancing styles, such as breakdancing and 70's hip-hop and at the time the dance moves on screen were very impressive.

There are plenty of games that are similar to Bust-a-groove, but you'll be hard pressed to find many that did a better job.

7. Elite Beat Agents

The best music game on Nintendo DS, by a mile. This unique music and rhythm game, which features tunes from the Jackson 5 and Jamiroquai, was developed by the crazy people at Japanese develope iNiS, who cleverly and successfully combined the game's comic book art-style with humourous and crazy scenarios that play out on screen whilst you're tapping away to each tune.

The stylus was used to great effect and it was great fun tapping it on screen and dragging it around to familiar tunes.
