The locations of Skyrim

One of our most memorable video game moments in recent years occured while playing Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. As you see the light at the end of the tunnel during your escape from the confines of the Imperial City Prison, nothing prepares you for the wonderful sight that awaits as you step out into the daylight. During our first moments, staring in wonder at the land of Cyrodiil, the hairs stood up on the back of our necks. There were hills, vallies and streams as far as the eye could see, and as the sun blazed across the stunning panaormic view, the clouds cast shadows over the trees and villages beyond -- Bethesda's RPG was quite simply a masterpiece in terms of its artwork.

From what we've seen so far of Skyrim, the developer hasn't sat back either and simply re-modelled existing environments. Bethesda once again plans to "wow" us all over again with great artistry by combining the latest graphical techniques with its powerhouse internal game engine, dubbed "Creation." We're promised an evolution of the game engine from Oblivion, with even deeper draw distances, richer flora and fauna and enchanced creature and character animations. Indeed, it promises to be quite a showcase on PC and will push the Xbox 360 and PS3 hardware to its limits.

In anticipation of the release of Skyrim on November 11, we've compiled as much art from Skyrim as we could muster to give you a taste of what's to come later this year. Sit back and enjoy...
