E3 2005: NCsoft Line-up

NCsoft are arguably one of the leading publisher and developers of online games. They have an impressive stable naming among their releases titles such as City of Heroes, Guildwars and Lineage II, all of which focus on the MMO aspect of gaming.

At E3 this year, NCsoft are showing off a diverse range of games, from the more familiar MMORPG hack and slash affair in Guildwars through to so automotive mayhem in Auto Assault. Let’s take a closer look at NCsoft’s wares.

Auto Assault

Available later this year and developed by NetDevil, Auto Assault's high-speed vehicular combat and spectacularly destructible environments are the highlights of this fuel filled fun fest.

This MMO game is set in a post-apocalyptic world and sees you haring around in customized cars, motorcycles, and semis. Humans, mutants, and biomeks battle each other for control of the world, using tricked out vehicles as their primary weapons.

Auto Assault boasts both common areas for battle and a detailed mission system with scripted scenarios for solo players and groups. Use your skills to unravel the complex storylines in each area and explore the remnants of Earth.

As well as being able to customize your character, you can customize the look and weaponry of your cars, motorcycles, and even big rigs. Each character can own several vehicles—and improve their cars as well as their character statistics and skills.

Auto Assault features a destructible world where you can destroy everything that moves and most things that don't! The effects are claimed to be as realistic as possible with the superb Havok physics engine under the bonnet, making jumping ravines, smashing through barriers, and sending buildings crumbling to the ground incredibly realistic .

AA has a unique mission system designed to let you level up while playing, rather than playing to level up, added to that is a totally new world map system that minimizes travel time and maximizes actual gameplay. And if you get bored with that, there’s a dynamic map generator with plug-in modules, terrain, creatures, and spontaneous world map events allow for virtually limitless replay ability.
