Lian Li's latest midi tower

We're seeing so many strange chassis these days that it's almost refreshing to see one that goes back to basics.

Fortunately, that's exactly the approach that Lian Li has taken with its PC-A06F. This midi-tower chassis, pictured below, measures 187mm x 375mm x 490mm and weighs a reasonable 3.8kg. Its bog-standard aesthetics make it appear like a chassis from years gone by, but it's packing a useful selection of Lian Li refinements that help make it a pretty appealing solution.

Inside the brushed-aluminium exterior is enough room for micro-ATX or standard ATX mainboards, a side-mounted extra-long PSU thanks to an adjustable bracket, and enough space for most powerful graphics cards, says Lian Li.

There's support for four 5.25in optical drives, housed in a switch-design anti-vibration cage, and three 3.5in drives in an anti-vibration HDD cage that utilises all the usual rubber grommets.

Providing airflow is a 140mm intake fan at the front of the chassis that'll spin at a relatively-quiet 900RPM. It's joined by a 1,000RPM 120mm top-mounted fan - coupled with a rear-top-mounted PSU - to help exhaust hot air.

Throw in seven PCI slots, a top-mounted I/O panel and Lian Li's promise of "no jagged edges" inside or out, and you're looking at a pretty decent midi-tower solution.

Lian Li expects the PC-A06F to appear at retail any moment now, priced at around $100 + VAT. Liking what you've seen so far? Additional images are available on page two.
