In-car-only FM transmitters 2 - Griffin iTrip Auto

The second dedicated in-car model is the Ā£20 Griffin iTrip Auto, finished all in black.

It consists of a 1100mm (43.5in) cable topped by a cigarette lighter plug with a replaceable fuse and carrying an iPod connector at the other end. A small control box sits in the middle of the lead.

[advert]The control box has two controls. One is an up/down tuning button, the other a button to store the radio frequency and switch between mono and stereo modes.

The iTrip Auto is a well-made unit that can be operated one-handed. Trouble is, it has no presets. Consequently, it has to be retuned manually every time reception quality becomes unacceptable. And the only safe way for the driver to do that is to pull over and stop.

The same product is also available in a universal version, with the iPod connector replaced by 3.5mm headphone plug but we did not try this cheaper version.
