The news
So, heads likely will roll. Yesterday's revelations on the Canon China web site about the launch of a new EOS digital SLR camera were correct. It is called the EOS 400D and does have a 10.1 megapixel, APS-C size (22.2 x 14.8mm) CMOS image sensor; an ultrasonic dust-removal system; and a 2.5in LCD panel.
The 400D will be arriving next month to sit above the big-selling EOS 350D and is among 39 new Canon lines arriving in the UK in September and October. These take in compact digital cameras; inkjet and laser printers and multi-function models; scanners; DVD and HDV camcorders; and a pro projector - all of which we'll be covering in coming days.
UK recommended price for the EOS 400D will be £720 (inc VAT) for a kit that includes the camera body and an 18-55mm auto-focus zoom lens, while the body alone will have an RRP of £650.
Check out the images below - all but the last were shot at today's launch event and are probably the first available on the net - then read Canon UK's official press release on page two.
When you've done that, let us know whether the EOS 400D is the digital SLR you were hoping Canon would launch - comment in this thread in the HEXUS.lifestyle.news forum. Oh, and come back soon, too, because we'll be updating this article shortly with the 400D's full specs.
