Fall-out continues

Snazzi is replacing its low-priced Premiere Pro series of video-editing hardware/software bundles with a more up-market range of seven packages – the HDV.Video Collection.

This is the latest fall-out from Adobe's decision (reported here) to stop allowing its Premiere Pro editing software to be sold in cheap bundles with video editing hardware.

The first six collection members go on sale in the next few weeks in the USA with suggested prices between $999 and $1,299. The seventh, the $1,599 range-leader, will be arriving at a later date. UK prices and availability have yet to be announced, though Snazzi says it will sell all seven products from its UK online store as it continues to search for distribution over here.

As with the old range, the new centres on Adobe Premiere Pro. However, like many other new Adobe-centred packages, it also includes the three other applications supplied in the standard, four-program retail version of Adobe's Video Collection – After Effects 6.5 Standard (for special effects); Encore DVD 1.5 (DVD authoring); and Audition 1.5 (audio editing). Some other hardware suppliers' bundles are built around the more expensive Adobe Professional collection which has one extra program, Photoshop CS2, and comes with the Pro version of After Effects.

Snazzi makes some pretty big claims for the new line up, saying it combines the best of the SD and HD formats as complete post-production solutions for professional videographers. It also reckons the products deliver a host of integrated tools that work in real-time without the need of rendering. Let's check out what the collection offers...
