PRESS RELEASE

Partnership with the British Heart Foundation reinforces support for fast-growing cycling audience

London: 28th May, 2012 - Mio today unveils its new Mio Cyclo Series, including the Mio Cyclo 300 and Mio Cyclo 305 HC. With over 208 million cycle journeys made in 2010[1] and a National Cycle Network spanning over 12,000 miles1, this new product range has been designed for the fast-growing British cycling community, with the bicycle navigation devices perfectly suited to both recreational and sportive cyclists.

Mio today also announces a UK partnership with the British Heart Foundation. The exciting partnership will see Mio committing to give at least £30,000 to the BHF, supporting the charity which has built a strong reputation as the nation's ‘cycling charity'.

Whether using a bike as a mode of transport, as a way to get fit, or for simply exploring new areas, the Mio Cyclo range brings a host of new and exciting features to cyclists all over Britain. Iwan van Hende, Product Director Outdoor & Fitness for Mio, said: "The launch of the Mio Cyclo range arrives at an exciting time for cyclists in Britain. With cities and the countryside becoming ever more bicycle friendly, we're delighted to be launching a product that helps both recreational and sportive riders take advantage of the growing cycling opportunity in the UK."

Unique Surprise MeTM feature

The Mio Cyclo series allows cyclists to easily navigate from A to B or to follow preferred routes. However riders can also choose an exciting new feature unique to Mio Cyclo devices, Surprise MeTM mode, which calculates three bicycle routes based on a chosen time or distance. This is ideal for anyone looking for new routes in their home area, or for those who would like to explore an unknown region, without having to prepare routes.

Preinstalled maps

Bicycle (Open Street Map) and road maps (TeleAtlas) are preinstalled on the devices, so a rider can start using the Mio Cyclo device straight out of the box. The combination of both maps ensures optimal coverage of roads and cycle routes, including seven digit post codes. Based on the type of rider, maps are suggested based on personal needs and bicycle type. And if desired, the integrated car navigation mode will even give you turn-by-turn directions to the nearest or starting point of a chosen bicycle route.

Thanks to the large, anti-glare 3" touch screen, all information displayed will be available quickly and clearly, whether the device is being used recreationally or by a trained mountain biker or racer. The robust and waterproof casing (IPX7) also makes the Mio Cyclo resistant to any type of weather.

Share your experiences online

The Mio Cyclo measures time, speed, distance, height, calorie consumption and more. With the Mio Share desktop application, you are able to store your data, manage your route history and share your experiences with your friends. The easy-to-use application allows you to download routes and enjoy new roads and areas that others find interesting. The application is also a one-stop shop for managing your device and downloading map updates or latest product information.

Extra features of the Mio Cyclo 305 HC

The Mio Cyclo 305 HC is packed with the same practical features as the Mio Cyclo 300, but comes with an ANT+ sensor, allowing you to connect the included heart rate monitor and cadence/wheel sensor, to tune all options to the training schedule you want to follow.

The best experience in bicycle navigation

Iwan van Hende, Product Director Outdoor & Fitness for Mio said: "The Mio Cyclo 300 and Mio Cyclo 305 HC are extremely easy to use:  the intuitive interface and simple menu structure are truly user-friendly. And because both devices come with pre installed maps, there is no need to go through any trouble when you buy the device, and you can get on your bicycle right away. With the unique Surprise MeTM feature, you don't have to do any preparation anymore. You just choose your time or distance and pick one of the three proposed routes. The feature combines the adventure of new roads and the comfort of not having to download or prepare anything before getting on your bicycle. The Mio Cyclo Series truly is the best experience in bicycle navigation, for any sportive or recreational user".

Strategic partnership with the BHF

Commenting on Mio's new partnership with the British Heart Foundation, Natasha Bartlett-Twivey, UK & Ireland Marketing Manager at Mio said: "Our Cyclo devices aim to help cyclists of all levels get more out of their bikes, consequently encouraging people to cycle more frequently. Cycling is a great aerobic physical activity to help keep your heart healthy, and together with the BHF we want to help work towards a future where people no longer die prematurely from heart disease."

Nancy Prior, Head of Events at the BHF said "We are delighted that Mio has chosen to support the British Heart Foundation over the next three years via the sales of the Cyclo bike navigation device. As the nation's heart charity with over 60,000 cyclists taking part in the BHF bike ride series annually we know the importance of regular physical exercise, such as cycling, to help keep your heart healthy. It is thanks to companies like Mio supporting the BHF that we can continue our life-saving work to help keep the nation's heart beating."
