4. Get posting some random stuff
We’ve already mentioned that you can +1 stories and articles from around the internet on websites that support it, but you can also post your own status updates, which people can comment on and also +1.

You can limit these comments to certain circles if you wish by clicking on the “Public” tab just below the status box on the Home page.

If you’ve never experienced a social networking site before then you may wonder what on earth you should write.

Don’t wonder. Just write whatever comes into your head, use it to talk about your feelings, subjects that are close to your heart, or to have a rant about why the wealth gap in Britain is the widest it’s been for 40 years.

You can also add web links, video, or photo to any status update.

5. Start a Hangout but don’t get freaked out
Down the right-hand side of the home page, you’ll see a link to “Hangouts.” The first time you use it you’ll have to install the Google Voice and Video Plug-in.

You’ll need to have mic plugged in and you can also use a webcam. Once you launch a hangout people within your circles can drop by for a chat or you can limit it to only certain circles.

It’s not for everyone, but you can’t knock free phone calls! Just watch out for perverts! Anyone can join you if you don’t change the preferences.

6. Play Games
Check out the Games hub on Google+. There are a host of web-based games you can play in your browser from Zynga Poker to more hardcore games such as Dragon Age Legend and Crime City.

Some of the games, such as Cityville, you may be familiar with from other social networking sites, but Google+ will also have some exclusives and the game list will swell over the coming months.

Playing games also ties in nicely to social networking allowing you to invite friends to games, gain achievements for bragging rights and check out the games stream which shows you latest posts from people talking about the Google+ games in their status updates.

Personally, we’d recommend jumping straight into a game of the multiplayer action adventure Crime City. Build a hood, fight against other players and mug pedestrians. Just watch out for the feds!
