Cinebench 2003

Cinebench is a 3D renderer that can test basic CPU performance and 3D rendering (using software, software OpenGL and hardware OpenGL renderers). We use the multi-CPU test and the hardware OpenGL test.

CPU Test - Multiple CPUs

CPU Test - Multiple CPUs

The Opteron manages a 1.83X speedup over the single CPU test (results of which I haven't shown), whereas the Xeon, with its true SMP + Hyperthreading approach, which Cinebench is optimised for, gets a 2.13X speedup.

Cinebench 2003's CPU tests are a nice example of how optimising software for a certain CPU or architectural feature can give a large performance increase.

Hardware OpenGL Rendering

Hardware OpenGL Rendering

Opteron, with an 8.28X speedup from the basic software renderer, bests the Xeon here. Comparatively, the Xeon experiences an 8.08X speedup. The hardware OpenGL test is GPU limited to a large extent, so we're seeing some differences in the bus performance.
