Notes

Windows XP Professional 64-bit was used throughout, and native 64-bit binaries were used wherever possible. Software ranges from a selection of our usual platform tests, right through to professional tools used in the content creation and CAD/CAM industries, including Maya 7, mental ray Standalone 64-bit, and Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0.

We've used mostly the same suite of software rolled out for our last look at Xeon, with 'Paxville' Xeon DP @ 2.8GHz, with a couple of additions. If you have any comments or questions about how we do our testing here at HEXUS, drop by the HEXUS.community.

Clock-for-clock, Core has the potential to outperform K8, so Xeon 5160 at 3.0GHz should show Opteron 285 (2.6GHz) a clean pair of heels. We measure performance on the following pages.
