Graphic details
NVIDIA has clearly taken Samsung out for a few drinks in the past year, because this year's IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin is a veritable love-in between the two companies.
Samsung has announced a couple of new netbooks, one a 11.6 inch model - the N510 - claiming "HD entertainment on the go" and the other - the N140 - claiming 11 hour battery life as its USP.
The N510 achieves all this high definition goodness by using NVIDIA's ION LE chip (although Samsung's press release calls it a graphics card), designed specifically to be used with Intel's Atom processor. While this does significantly reduce the battery life - a claimed seven hours in this case - it should deliver decent HD movie viewing and be able to play a lot of games.
The processors of choice in both of these netbooks are the Atom N270 and N280. This contrasts with Nokia's choice, in its new Booklet, of the Atom Z530. As you will soon read on HEXUS.channel in greater detail, Intel's Atom Z series has some secret graphics sauce from UK company Imagination Technologies, which poses a significant threat to ION.
Also, almost in passing, Samsung formally launched the M1 PMP, which is the only other device ther then Microsoft's Zune HD, to announce it's running NVIDIA's Tegra chip. Apart from confirming that is comes in 8GB and 16GB capacities, there was little new information about it initially, but we're endeavouring to get you more.
