Too good to be true?
Soon to be wholly Fujitsu owned Fujitsu Siemens (FSC) has launched what appears to be a tempting offer.
Anyone who buys a Lifebook notebook before the end of March 2009, upgrades to a three year warranty and registers on the appropriate website, will have their notebook replaced for free with an equivalent new one every three years...indefinitely.
We thought this sounded like a suspiciously generous offer so we spoke to FSC's head of marketing operations David White to find out what the deal was.
"There are in fact three offers, which we designed to coincide with the launch of our new Esprimo design concept in October. We also launched our new Lifebooks at that time," he said. "The purpose of the offers is to demonstrate our confidence in the reliability of our products."
The promotions concern Esprimo products, which encompass desktops and notebooks, Lifebook notebooks and Primergy servers. Here's a summary of the three offers:
The Esprimo Promise - If the PC fails within the duration of the warranty, FSC will repair it and refund the full cost of the PC.
Lifebook 4 Life - As above. Replacement on a "life for like" basis.
Primergy Servers - Buy and register a server and get an automatic five year warranty (standard is 2-4 years).
