AMD seemed especially proud of the fact that this launch was not only early, but that products were shipping. To emphasise this point we were taken to a massive data centre called STRATO, whose location we were made to solemnly vow not to reveal due to security concerns, presumably.
As you can see from the image of just one aisle at STRATO, it has loads of servers and, as we mentioned earlier, given that most of these run on Opterons that makes it a pretty important customer for AMD.
However, AMD didn't just take us there to say "look at all these servers", they'd also set up a rack of servers running on Shanghai processors and, in the name of theatre, were going to activate them as we watched by pressing a big, red button. The privilege fell to Ghilardi.
