On the mend?

Market researcher IDC has revealed the EMEA PC market was once more reliant on sales of netbooks (or mini-notebooks) to consumers in Western Europe as its main source of growth in PC sales.

The EMEA PC market shrank once more, but by a lesser degree than forecast. The desktop and commercial sectors plunged once more, resulting in another big fall for Central and Eastern Europe. However, the rest of the region fared much better, thanks to its more extravagant consumers.

The relative strength of the consumer sector, especially in the area of netbooks, was reflected among the vendors. While HP maintained its number one spot, the big winner was Acer, which seems to have stolen most of ASUS' thunder in the netbook market. Dell, which is especially exposed to the corporate sector, lost share once more.
