Knock-on effects
Surely this tit-for-tat price war is likely to spread throughout the channel and lead to widespread price cuts of AMD's ATI Radeon HD 4890 and possible knock-on effects on all of its, and other, lesser priced products.
Due to the late hour of this news breaking, we have so far been able to contact only one AMD board partner for comment.
Talking exclusively to HEXUS.channel, Maggie Zaboura, country sales manager for exclusive AMD board partner HIS Graphics, said: "There's absolutely nothing wrong with the ATI Radeon HD 4890, the HIS Radeon HD 4890 SKUs being a fine testament to that.
"This situation appears to have happened because some distributors seemingly don't know how to manage their stock properly and have been panic selling for no good reason. My opinion is that what's happened here is such a silly thing and it's also been driven by some e-tailer's buyers playing distributors off against each other.
"HIS Graphics' distributor M2M knows how to manage these things professionally and sensibly and all to the benefit of the industry and HIS retailers."
HEXUS has approached AMD for comment, but has yet to receive any.
