To tweet or not to tweet...
Once more the Sunday broadsheets were awash with musings on the surge in popularity of microblogging site Twitter and what that means.
For those of you who are so hopelessly un-hip to what's going on in the webosphere (or whatever we're supposed to call t'internet these days) that you've yet to encounter it, Twitter allows you to write updates of a maximum length of 140 characters which are then read by your ‘followers' if they happen to be looking at their Twitter feed when you write it.
What seems to be beyond question is that to acquire followers is a good thing. People have to choose to subscribe to your twitter presence in order to see what you ‘tweet', and there's no point in writing stuff if nobody reads it.
The question is, even if you do get a nice lot of followers, what's the point of doing it in the first place? What's the ROI?
In an attempt to organise my own thoughts on the matter what follows is a rough and ready breakdown apparent reasons to Twitter. They come in no particular order and there are almost certainly more. I encourage readers to comment on the categories below and by all means suggest their own.
