Dragon, Yukon and Congo

The fusion rebrand comes hot on the heels of another rebrand - of AMD as a ‘platform' and ‘solution' as opposed to ‘component' company. So we get solutions like AMD LIVE!, AMD GAME! and Business Class, and platforms like Spider, which will see its next generation manifest itself alongside the launch of the next generation Phenoms under the name Dragon.

The point of all these solutions and platforms is to focus the end-user on the whole system rather than the sum of its parts. It's easy to say that AMD is compelled to divert attention away from components while Intel holds the overall CPU performance lead but, for most consumers, this is a much more understandable, useful and intuitive perspective than banging on a gigahertz, megabytes and nanometres.

Two newly announced platforms are Yukon and Congo, which both target the sector that exists in between netbooks - with screen sizes of up to ten inches - and full sized notebooks - i.e. those with a screen size of 15 inches and above. Congo will have the higher specification, including the RS780M IGP as opposed to the RS690E in Yukon.

And here's how they fit into the overall notebook roadmap.
