Feeling the heat
Intel recently gave what it called a public disclosure of its next generation Atom platform - called Pine Trail, which moves the graphics processor and memory controller from the chipset, where they currently reside, onto the same die as the CPU.
This merging of two chips into one promises to reduce both the overall size and the TDP (thermal design power - the maximum amount of power used) of the platform.
We spoke to Intel's EMEA marketing manager for Atom - Johann Weber - to find out more about the significance of this launch. "Pine Trail moves to a two chip solution and now the graphics and memory controller have moved from a legacy process to an advanced 45nm one," he said.
