The Ultrawide FreeSync gaming experience

A gamer's preferences towards refresh rate, latency and resolution is always a subjective matter. Generally speaking a notable gain in one particular characteristic leads to a decline in another, for example ultra-high resolutions are often unavailable in higher refresh-rate options such as 120/144Hz.

The Acer XR341CK strikes the best balance yet between all these criteria - a 3,440x1,440 resolution at 75Hz with a 4ms response time will keep most gamers happy in all the crucial areas. This is particularly relevant for the refresh rate where the biggest gain tends to be felt between 60 and 75Hz while anything after 75Hz tends to exhibit diminishing returns for the fluidity experience.

The FreeSync-supported range for the XR341CK is an impressive 30-75Hz, which is a well-positioned range given the fairly demanding nature of the UWQHD resolution. Most high-end current-generation AMD GPUs, such as the R9 390(X) or R9 Fury (X), should be capable of keeping the frame-rate within that range with all the eye-candy turned on. Acer's XR341CK is, without doubt, the most versatile 3,440x1,440 FreeSync monitor available and offers fully-featured visuals in comparison to 2,560x1,080 FreeSync monitors like the LG 34UM67 or BenQ XR3501.

Taking a step away from gaming and the XR341CK retains all the productivity and usage benefits that we discussed in our LG 34UC97 review. In particular, the 3,440x1,440 resolution closely resembles a dual-display setup which allows for easy multi-tasking. The UWQHD resolution on a 34in panel requires no scaling either, meaning the amount of productive workspace is maximised and not requiring any Windows scaling prevents any compatibility issues with programs that can't handle those settings.
