Conclusion

The ability to be able to serve up in excess of 60 frames per second in modern titles at the native 2,880x,1,620 resolution is a genuine treat...

When we reviewed the special edition Aorus X5S v5 Camo back in April, we came away with the feeling that the laptop's strengths were largely negated by the lack of next-gen GPUs.

Fast forward a few months and Nvidia has stepped forward to fill the void with the GeForce GTX 10-series. Aorus has responded quickly and the refreshed X5 v6 races out of the gate with a Core i7-6820HK processor and GeForce GTX 1070 graphics allied to a high-resolution 3K WQHD+ display.

The ability to be able to serve up in excess of 60 frames per second in modern titles at the native 2,880x,1,620 resolution is a genuine treat, and with G-Sync thrown into the mix modern games are made to look and feel spectacular.

A gamer's paradise, then? In many ways, yes, however the increase in graphics performance doesn't fix some of the niggling issues that remain. Heat and noise do become bothersome, and if you're looking for a gaming machine that doubles as a productivity powerhouse, it's worth noting that the X5 v6 keyboard leaves room for improvement.

Aorus hasn't yet nailed it, but it's getting closer with each new generation and anyone in the market for a sleek and ultra-fast 15.6in gaming laptop should have the X5 v6 on their shortlist.

The Good

The Bad
GeForce GTX 1070 graphics
Quad-core Intel Skylake CPU
Manages 60fps at native 3K resolution
Good selection of I/O ports
Fast NVMe PCIe storage
Sleek for a gaming laptop

Heat and noise can be bothersome
Keyboard could be better
Middling battery life

FINALLY a laptop that has a GPU and screen combination that works!

Sick of seeing SLI laptops with 1080p screens, or 4K screens with a midrange GPU. It always baffled me, what sort of audience would want that.

I think this is the first laptop I've ever seen that I'd seriously consider buying
