Overclocking

MSI's decision to apply only a small out-the-box overclock probably suits the target market: it's important that this card runs cool and relatively quiet when installed in a small-form-factor chassis. However, those with plenty of airflow or third-party cooling will appreciate the fact that there is a good amount of further headroom available.

With barely any effort, we had the card ramped up to 1,170MHz on core and an effective 6,200MHz on memory.

At these speeds, the R9 270X is able to break the 3,000 barrier in 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme.
