PRESS RELEASE

United Kingdom, March 26,2012: MMD, the leading technology company and brandlicense partner for Philips Monitors, today unveiled the Philips Blade 2 monitor. With an awe-inspiring design and ultra-slim silhouette that complements any interior - home and office alike - the 23-inch Philips Blade is a joy to have around. With the Blade 2 model featuring an IPS display for an extra wide viewing angle, you can expect the Phillips Blade to draw a small crowd. And with IPS, everyone in the group has an uncompromised view of the display - with brilliant colour and sharp imaging - from any angle.

Clean lines and clear viewing

Inspired by the sharp, clean lines of ice skate blades, the Philips 239C4QHSB Blade monitor, at 12.9 mm in profile, is as slim as a photo frame. Nothing detracts from the calm elegance of its exterior. With touch controls integrated into the glossy black base and efficient cable management, everything is kept tidily out of view, also saving valuable desk or tabletop space.

Powerful specs

Underneath its graceful exterior, the Blade 2 is a powerfully spec'd device. "The Philips Blade 2 demonstrates the company's ability to deliver versatile monitors that combine cutting-edge design with excellent performance," said Thomas Schade Vice-President Europe at MMD.  "They also showcase our desire to push boundaries and develop better products for consumers."

The highlight of the Blade 2 is the eIPS (Enhanced In-Plane Switching) LED display. This offers an even wider viewing angle (almost 180 degrees, in fact) without sacrificing colour vibrancy or image detailing. Like its predecessor, the Blade 2 features the latest generation of slim LEDs (which make such a slim silhouette possible in the first place), as well Philips power features for colour, imaging and control. SmartKolor is a sophisticated colour extension technology that boosts RGB gain - which in practice means richer, more vibrant images for dazzling photos and videos. Complementing this feature is SmartContrast, which renders images with brilliant, lifelike contrast. Then there's SmartImage: this exclusive Philips technology analyses screen content and adjusts display performance accordingly. With a range of modes to choose from (Office, Image, Entertainment, Economy), the viewing experience is always exactly right for the application.  And, for less fatigue during long hours in front of the display, Philips has included SmartTxt, a sophisticated algorithm that enhances reading of text-based applications such as PDF documents.

HDMI-ready

The Blade 2 is designed to be on show. Yet if the display will be gracing your living space, it also has to deliver a superb entertainment experience. The Blade 2 comes with High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), enabling high-quality digital video and audio to be transmitted over a single cable from your preferred source: PC, DVD player, set-top box or camera. There's also an audio-out port to connect to your speakers or headset.

Greener everyday

Philips Blade displays with LED backlighting are free of mercury so they are guaranteed eco-friendly throughout their life cycle, from manufacturing to disposal.
