Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1070 remains a strong performer in the various 3DMark tests. The GPU has no problem passing the VRMark Orange Room benchmark, but the chip is feeling the strain of being enclosed in such a svelte profile. A rating of 96.5 per cent in the Time Spy Stress Test is just short of the pass rate, so don't expect the MSI card to be able to maintain the highest boost frequencies during extended gameplay.

4K UHD gaming is outside the remit of the GeForce GTX 1070, but Nvidia's third-rung GPU is excellent at the ubiquitous full-HD resolution and copes well at 2,560x1,440.

There's a good dollop of gaming performance on offer, yet you could argue that the Trident 3 Arctic is at risk of landing in no-man's land. The hardware is designed to be paired to living-room TVs that typically come in FHD or UHD flavours; a Core i7-7700 with GeForce GTX 1070 is overkill for the former and underpowered for the latter.
