Benchmarks - Iometer

Testing with consumer applications provides a glimpse into what the 845DC PRO can do, but that's patently not what it's aimed at. We've run Iometer with various configurations to test the mettle of the drive when under multi-user pressure.

Simulating a possible real-world scenario, our database workload consists of random 8KB transfers in a 67 per cent read/33 per cent write distribution. The consumer Crucial M500 cannot improve performance once the number of users is increased - performance remains comfortably below 10,000 IOPs at all times.

But firing up the Samsung shows that it excels as greater load is imposed upon it. Performance tops off at around 40,000 IOPS, or 7x the Crucial M500's.

The file server workload consists of mixed-size file transfers. Here, again, the 845DC PRO mullers a decent consumer drive.

The workstation pattern makes use of 8KB transfers in an 80 per cent read/20 per cent write distribution. The 845DC PRO's performance continues to increase as more workers access the drive, just as one would expect.
