Final thoughts and rating

When it comes to single-component upgrades, there's nothing quite like a fresh new slab of super-fast flash memory.

Kingston's 96GB SSDNow V+100 might not be the quickest or most capacious SSD on the market, but its competitive pricing and strong mid-range specification make it an excellent upgrade to existing SATA 3Gbps systems.

Using the drive as a hard-disk replacement in our frequently-used notebook delivered instantaneous results; the time taken to boot into Windows 7 has dropped by over 75 per cent, system responsiveness has improved dramatically, battery life has increased by over 15 per cent and the sporadic noise of the hard disk has been replaced with silence.

Extreme users should look elsewhere for benchmark-busting performance, but make no mistake; few solid-state drives offer this blend of price, performance and capacity. Kingston's 96GB SSDNow V+100 is well worthy of consideration at under £105.

The Good

Priced close to £1-per-GB
Good SATA 3Gbps performance
Available with an excellent upgrade kit
TRIM support and independent garbage collection
Low power consumption can boost battery life
Breathes new life into old notebooks

The Bad

£105 still feels like a lot of money for 96GB
Performance drops off at high queue depths

The Moose is collecting donations. Perhaps if I find a few thousand pennies I can buy one! :D
Yup SSDs are nice :D

What's the actual usable capacity of the 96GB drive?
Nice review, I'm surprised that a 3w reduction in power gives you that much extra battery life though.

It would have been nice if you could have compared it to another SSD but I suppose that wasn't the aim of the review.
