Conclusion

...Gigabyte Aorus AX370-Gaming 5 showing just how far it has come in a month or so after launch.

Hindsight is a great thing. It tells us that AMD didn't give motherboard partners ample time before the Ryzen 7 launch to optimise boards. Successive BIOSes have made the AM4 platform more stable, with the Gigabyte Aorus AX370-Gaming 5 showing just how far it has come in a month or so after launch.

Now as stable as the Intel equivalents - we noticed zero memory- or CPU-related errors during rigorous testing - the Gaming 5 offers the obligatory RGB lighting, a clean layout, a solid BIOS and predictable, consistent performance.

In an ideal world we'd like to see more focus on PCIe-riding M.2 and, possibly, WiFi, but that's about it. The Gigabyte Aorus AX370-Gaming 5 is a fine motherboard, ideally suited to Ryzen 7, whose real competition may actually come from the cheaper B350 range. Those in search a premium AM4 experience, however, would do well to put this board on their shortlist.

The Good

The Bad
Lighting everywhere
Premium audio
Great looks
USB 3.1 everywhere

Too much SATA, not enough M.2

Can you add some benchmark results when the memory is overclocked? This seems to give decent increases in performance
