Make no mistake, this is the GTX 1070 we know and appreciate. The 16nm Pascal GPU delivers a level of performance that's eerily similar to the desktop Founders Edition. With this amount of power the ROG G752VS pummels all of the laptops equipped with a GTX 980M, and it isn't a million miles behind an MSI GT80S outfitted with two GTX 980s.

Though our time with the laptop has been limited, we've been able to run all the relevant 3DMark tests. For those of you seeking a direct mobile vs. desktop comparison, it's worth noting that the GTX 1070 Founders Edition recently scored 8,258 in Fire Strike Extreme and 4,504 in Fire Strike Ultra. There's not a huge amount in it, and the less potent mobile CPU is most likely the only thing preventing the laptop GTX 1070 from matching its desktop sibling.

The real-world gaming benchmarks are more enlightening, we feel, as the titles that are GPU-bound show the Asus laptop scoring within three frames per second of the desktop Founders Edition. We've used an external display to test at multiple resolutions, confirming that performance at FHD and QHD resolutions is excellent, and there's potential at 4K UHD.

Gaming purists who prioritise smoothness ahead of pixel count will be eyeing up a GTX 1070 laptop with a 120Hz FHD G-Sync display. The 75Hz panel in our Asus ROG review sample appears silky-smooth with G-Sync enabled, but given the available GPU horsepower, we're already looking forward to the 120Hz panels that Nvidia tells us are just around the corner.
