Benchmarking in-game performance is one facet of a card's overall appeal. The GTX 1080 is far more efficient than the older-generation Fury X, and Asus does a good job.

And any high-quality cooler is going to have no problem in taming a GPU that sips on less than 200W. If anyone wonders why the idle temperature is so high, it's because the card's fans remain switched off below about 60°C.

The really good thing is that temperature does not come at the expense of excessive noise. The trio of fans hit a maximum 45 per cent of capacity, or 1,600rpm. The sample card is quiet enough to be barely heard in a well-ventilated system.
