Power, Temperature and Noise

We already knew that Pascal was an energy-efficient architecture. What we now know is that GTX 1060 FE is predictably impressive in this regard. Remember how we've drawn performance comparisons against the Radeon RX 480, GeForce GTX 970 OC and GTX 980 OC in the preceding pages? This new GPU is another class with respect to power draw.

Yet dissipating such little power still causes the reference heatsink to push temperatures up to near 80°C. This is by design, however, as that is the limit encouraged by the control panel.

The Founders Edition card is also quiet, producing a low hum at maximum load. We expect partner cards to increase power consumption a touch but lower temperatures and noise further, going by what we've seen on AIC GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 GPUs.
