MSI's RX800 XT Platinum Edition

The AGP version is also powered by the same full R420 GPU, this time at 520MHz. Again, joined by Samsung's GDDR3 DRAMs, eight of the 256Mbit, GC16-variant devices give X800 XT Platinum Edition its 256MB of memory. The GC16 variant, with a 1.6ns refresh cycle, can run up to 600MHz (1200MHz DDR). MSI don't deviate from the reference X800 XT PE specification and clock the memory at 560MHz (1120MHz DDR). Similarly, the same Rage Theater 200 ASIC provides the board with VIVO ability. The AGP-based Platinum Edition also needs external power this time via a purple molex connector.

Again, it weighs less than 350 grams and MSI haven't changed the reference cooler, so the same comments about noise and cooler profile that I made regarding the PCI Express XT version on the previous page apply here too.

Like the XT, the XT PE doesn't feature dual DVI. It's a real shame it's not included.

Actual hardware wise, the differences are now clear. XT PE is clocked higher and uses different DRAMs and each board's interface type dictates the slot connector and external power system used. Everything else is the same.

Do the similarities extend to the presentation and bundle?
