Conclusion

...a tempting package and an ideal upgrade from integrated graphics or an ageing discrete GPU...

Nvidia has extended the reach of its GeForce GTX 900-series graphics cards with a keenly priced variant aimed squarely at mainstream gamers.

Dubbed Geforce GTX 950, the new addition borrows liberally from the existing GTX 960 and sheds a couple of SM units in order to meet a more attractive street price. With launch-day availability starting from below £130, GTX 950 is well equipped to become the crowd pleaser of this generation.

Building on the GPU's 1080p credentials, EVGA's SSC model, priced at £140, offers a tasty factory overclock, a good range of outputs and a quality cooler that delivers low temps while remaining virtually inaudible at all times. This is a tempting package and an ideal upgrade from integrated graphics or an ageing discrete GPU, though partners need to be aggressive with regards to pricing, particularly now that full-fat GTX 960 is available for under £150.

Bottom line: we're spoilt for choice when it comes to high-quality 1080p gaming and if you're looking for a graphics card that's well made and fantastically quiet, EVGA's GeForce GTX 950 SSC should be on your shortlist.
