Power, Temperature and Noise

One of the drawbacks of the G1 Gaming was that it raised power consumption by up to 15 per cent while delivering minimal gains in terms of performance. The WindForce 2X redresses that concern and is more in keeping with other GTX 960s.

Here's an interesting graph. With one less fan, the WindForce 2X actually ran cooler during our benchmarks than the meaty G1 Gaming. This can be attributed to a more conservative factory overclock, and considering the minimal gap in performance, the lower temperature is a welcome adjustment.

What do we like most about GTX 960? It has to be the noise level, or lack of. We've yet to encounter a GTX 960 that's loud, and true to form, the WindForce 2X is dead silent when idle and barely audible when gaming. Getting granular, fan speed topped out at just 830rpm during our testing, and both turn off when core temperature has returned to 30ºC.
