Overclocking

Our experience of various GTX 980s tells us that overclocking headroom is plentiful. Reinforcing that belief, MSI's GTX 980 Gaming 4G had no trouble ramping up to 1,385MHz on core (1,486MHz boost) and an effective 8,000MHz on memory.

With the overclock in place, it's easy to smash the 13,000-mark barrier in 3DMark Fire Strike.

Indeed, the performance gain obtained by the overclock is well worth knowing about. A few minutes of tinkering and Total War: Rome II performance can be improved to the tune of 14 per cent. At these speeds, MSI's card is 25 per cent faster than reference.
