1080p - Total War: Rome II

Providing an excellent mix of strategy and action, Total War: Rome II's epic turn-based gameplay can swallow hours of your life. Our 60-second benchmark uses the built-in Extreme preset at 1080p.

The overclocked GTX 970 routinely mixes it up with yesterday's best GPUs. However, anyone using, say, a GTX 780 or R9 290 should hardly rush out to upgrade. It's those users on older hardware who need to be taking note - the GTX 970 FTW runs circles round the once class-leading GTX 680.

We have to remember that this is a heavily overclocked card, but nonetheless, it delivers a super-smooth experience in Total War: Rome II and is second only to the GTX 980.

Nvidia's two-pronged GTX 900-series line up leads the way, but Crysis aside, 1080p just isn't enough to tax these GPUs.
