Overclocking

To overclock the R9 290X WindForce OC, we kept to stock voltages and quickly increased the core to 1,100MHz. Going any further resulted in on-screen artefacts, but we found plenty of room to tinker elsewhere - the 4GB frame buffer had no problem being asked to run at an effective 6,000MHz. Knowing that this amount of headroom is available, it's a shame Gigabyte didn't provide an out-the-box overclock on memory.

At speeds of 1,100MHz on core and 6,000MHz on memory, the R9 290X WindForce OC has no problem cruising past 10,000 3DMarks. That pesky GTX 780 Ti WindForce OC is unmoved, however.
