Final thoughts and rating

Palit has clearly taken the time to think about the mainstream graphics-card market and launched a custom-built card to fit a wide range of needs.

Palit's GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost OC 2GB card improves upon NVIDIA's reference design in all ways that matter. It is smaller, quieter, cooler, marginally faster, and draws no more power. Palit has clearly taken the time to think about the mainstream graphics-card market and launched a custom-built card ready to fit a wide range of needs.

The reviewed OC card therefore does well when judged against our requirements that it be well-balanced in a number of facets. Unfortunately for Palit and almost every manufacturer selling new mainstream graphics in the UK, the current status quo is such that a GTX 660 - a fundamentally faster card - is available for the same money and a Radeon HD 7850 2GB for less. This pricing compaction is the same problem that currently blights a glut of Radeon HD 7790s, too.

Our advice to you is simple enough: if you want the fastest graphics card for the same £140 outlay as this Palit GTX 650 Ti OC 2GB then you need to look elsewhere. For those that want a well-rounded card that's good in every area it is certainly worthy of being on a shortlist, though, being the price-conscious folk we are, we'd be interested to see how the 1GB variant shapes up.

We feel Palit has done pretty much all it can in designing a good GTX 650 Ti Boost 2GB graphics card. The current pricing climate means it makes a lot more sense if available for, say, £125.

The Good

Very quiet
Small PCB
Relatively cool
Is marginally overclocked

The Bad

UK pricing doesn't make sense

Yup, still pointless compared to the 660.
Pfffff… missed opportunity on a single-slot card. Again.

A step in the right direction though - maybe manufacturers could start to ease back on the comically overblown (pun intended) cooling systems on low-end cards.
Just get a 7850 and overclock that , it will be better than the 650 ti boost
Good review, your conclusions put it well:
Nice card but at that price the better gtx660 is a better buy.
