DiRT Showdown may be lacking the realism of previous games in the DiRT series, but it offers stunning graphics, intense action and good ol' demolition derby events.

The tables are drastically turned in DiRT Showdown, a game which describes "the first title that has been fully optimised for our Graphics Core Next Architecture." Codemasters's 2012 racer makes use of advanced lighting technologies to simulate light reflection from all surfaces, but this in-game option - dubbed Global Illumination and automatically selected as part of the Ultra quality preset - is known to be extremely demanding on the GPU.

The benchmark results are so heavily favoured toward AMD cards that NVIDIA actively encourages media not to use DiRT Showdown as a benchmark. It's hard to tell whether this is a result of an in-game issue or a driver problem, but one thing's for certain, if you want to be playing DiRT Showdown with Ultra quality, you'll be wanting a Radeon GPU.
