Overclocking
Sapphire HD 7970 TOXIC OC |
---|
So what's faster than a Sapphire TOXIC? An overclocked TOXIC, that's what! We increased the GPU voltage from 1.281V to 1.300V and then had a few frequency-related fun and games. We managed to persuade the card to run, stably, at 1,270MHz core and 7,120MHz memory, which are the highest numbers witnessed for a Radeon HD 7970. The memory speed, in particular, is impressive for a 6GB buffer.
Performance is yummy from a rampaging Radeon. We had a furtive look at the power meter and it was reading the wrong side of 350W. Noise, too, increased to 46dB as the two fans struggled to keep the 1.27GHz-clocked GPU below 80°C.
