Conclusion
It is in this no man's land that EVGA strives to add another model. Part FTW, part SC Gaming, and thicker than either due to a new heatsink optimised for near-silent operation. The GeForce GTX 1070 Ti is a curious GPU. Its credentials are fine if examined against rival AMD Radeon cards but, and it is a big one, Nvidia's decision to restrict all partner cards' speed to stock is perplexing, especially given the £500-plus price of quality aftermarket cards.
It is in this no man's land that EVGA strives to add another model. Part FTW, part SC Gaming, and thicker than either due to a new heatsink optimised for near-silent operation, the card gives a good account in the benchmarks.
That said, it's hard to stomach laying out over £500 for what is essentially a third-rung gaming card. We would really take a shine to the FTW Ultra Silent Gaming if it was £450, which it should be given the $500 Stateside pricing.
In fact, the same conclusions that we drew from the FTW2 continue to resonate here, meaning the inherent goodness of the FTW Ultra Silent model is largely inhibited by a price that is on the wrong side of making proper sense.
Bottom line: a fine gaming card, especially for quiet computing aficionados, but price remains a thorny issue.
