Conclusion

...yet such thoughts are overshadowed by a price premium that, at £500, puts it at the same levels as basic GeForce GTX 1080 GPUs.

Let's get something obvious out of the way first: the EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti FTW2 Gaming is a very good card. A custom PCB and in-house cooling lead to a package that is eerily quiet under load, keeps temperatures well in check, looks good, and has enough RGB to satisfy the modern trend.

The decision by Nvidia to limit out-of-the-box speeds really hurts premium offerings such as this, because the reference clocks translate to performance that is identical to a card costing £80 less. Sure, this version is likely to overclock that bit higher, albeit with no guarantees, yet such thoughts are overshadowed by a price premium that, at £500, puts it at the same levels as basic GeForce GTX 1080 GPUs. That doesn't make sense.

This is the quandary EVGA finds itself in. Does one lay out £500 here, save a tenner and go for a basic GeForce GTX 1080, or spend an extra £50 and run with the GTX 1080 ACX model?

Understanding the market is a crucial concern for the GeForce GTX 1070 TI partner cards. The inherent goodness of the FTW2 model is largely inhibited by a price that is on the wrong side of making implicit sense. This would be a great deal at £450, but at £500 we're not at all sure.

The price hampers every 1070ti in existence, this one just takes the Michael.
aren't they just like re-launching 1080 normal?

Say it again, loud enough for NVidia to hear.
I never see why either reviewers or geeks compare an overclocked card (not even a factory OC) to a stock one. If you wanna say an OC 1070ti is better than X why not make sure X is also OC. Apples to Apples. This card may be better than a 1080 when the 1070ti is OC to the max but why not OC the 1080 to the max and THEN compare?
I do like EVGAs styling on this one.
