Benchmarks: Gaming

A faster CPU makes the slightest difference when gaming on the IGP alone. The numbers spell out the real story here, however, as the HD 4600 Graphics is barely able to pass muster at a 720p resolution.

But we can also benchmark with a discrete card in the system, and we chose a mid-priced Gigabyte GeForce GTX 750 Ti. Here's how the Core i5-4690K compares against a couple of other Intel processors.

The games take in four tests we use as part of our high-end graphics benchmarking suite. The titles aren't partial to a greater number of cores, evidenced by the lack of increase going from a Pentium G3220 to a Core i7-4770K. What we can say is that an overclocked Core i5 chip is a pretty safe and sensible bet for gaming purposes.
