Benchmarks: Core Performance

Our PiFast benchmark remains a great tool for testing single-core speed and it serves to confirm the quality of Intel's 22nm architecture. In this test of straight-line speed, an 11.5W Core i5-4210Y that tops out at 1.9GHz is on par with a 65W AMD A8-7600 running at double the frequency.

It's a different story when all available cores are put to work. The 15W i5-4250U and 11.5W i5-4210Y have plenty in common, but the latter's lower operating frequency results in a 35 per cent performance reduction.

We see similar results in the multi-core wPrime benchmark. The energy-efficient i5-4210Y still scores reasonably well, however, and CPU core performance is more than respectable for a sub-12W part.
