Overall Conclusion

I'd love to scream from the rooftops that these processors are what you should buy. But I can't because you can't. I held back on criticising AMD for their XP2600+ and XP2400+ paper releases to steal some thunder from Intel because the core revision was so excellent and the CPU deserved some genuine praise.

And while that's true here, the platform just took a major step with the new CPU and nForce2, you wont be able to buy boards or 166Mhz bus Athlon XP's for quite a while. XP2600+ and XP2400+ are only just starting to appear with retailers and OEM's and it'll be another while before XP2700+ and XP2800+ are available for you to buy.

I love testing them, but I wish you could buy them the day our reviews go live (and so do AMD) so I have to criticise them at least a little for recent releases.

But that's the only thing to take the shine off things. The bus clock increase and the new speed from nForce2 are really something to be proud of. The Asus board is a delight and it only needs voltage adjustment to be perfect for me. If they make one with voltage adjust and the SoundStorm card, I'll be moving back to AMD as soon as XP2800+ becomes retail. P4 processors remain expensive for me (yes, we don't keep all the samples unfortunately) so a switch back might be in order.

AMD will have a real hard time getting the test system back. Maybe all the XP2700+ and XP2800+ reviewers should keep back their test CPU's and systems and hold AMD to ransom until they get the processors out to you guys :P

Top notch stuff......when you can finally buy it. The new CPU's and nForce2 are simply excellent and good value compared to P4.

The CPU loves the new bus speed and a comparison between nForce2 and KT400 will be interesting, shame I have to give the CPU back, would be a nice article.

Pro's

The speed!
The sorely needed bus speed increase
The overclocking
Price, cheap compared to high end P4

Con's

You can't buy them yet! >8|

Overall Score

9.5/10

Thanks

AMD for the full test system packed with goodies, it was a pleasure to test. Especially Theresa for the CPU spec sheet.

450W CWT at Scan for £35 (rumoured to be the same psu as Antec)

Enermax 350W at Scan £35
Would you go with the Enermax over the Antec? Just as good a PSU, or to save £15? :)
I would probably go with the CWT, but what do i know?
Where's Austin et al when you want them? :)

Fyi, I've got an Antec TrueBlue 480W in my main rig but that's over your budget.
:D Just 1min away LOL! Antec and Enermax are easily the most widely regarded top brands for PSU although there are other great brands of course. Scan's P&P may hurt some of the price saving, will you be buying anything else?
Yeah, a Razor Boomslang 2100, an IceMat Pro, and a GamePad. Saving a bit on every item, over where I was going to get them.

Looks like I'll get that lot, and the £38 Enermax 350.

Scan more expensive on the P&P then other places?
