Move on to gaming and FX edges out Phenom II but loses out to Core i5 2500K. AMD reckons FX performs better with newer benchmarks, and running 3DMark 11 at its default setting returns a score of 4,960, compared to an 1100T's 4,471 and 2500K's 4,812.

Keeping the load on the system and leaving the graphics card with pixels to burn, FX-8150 remains the meat in the three-CPU sandwich.

And it's a good-enough gaming CPU, though we expected more performance from the range-topping model with a grounds-up design.
