Corsair announced two new ranges of high-speed DDR4 desktop computer memory today. The new memory should "usher in a new age of ultrafast computing with optimizations such as increased DRAM bandwidth, higher bus frequencies, lower power usage, and higher reliability," the firm said. The memory modules will be marketed as the Corsair Vengeance LPX and Dominator Platinum ranges.
Corsair will supply both the ranges in kits validated by motherboard partners such as ASUS, ASRock, EVGA, Gigabyte, and MSI. Targeted at users of the upcoming Intel X99 platform (and Intel Core i7 Haswell-E processors) the memory modules support the latest Intel XMP 2.0 profiles for easy and reliable overclocking.
Vengeance LPX
These memory modules have a pure aluminium heatspreader said to offer faster heat dissipation. The memory module construction, using an eight-layer PCB, is said to help keep temperatures low and offer better overclocking headroom. The Vengeance LPX modules are low-profile components at just 31mm tall and are compatible with the Corsair Vengeance Airflow cooling system.
A range of colours is available to match your other computer parts (red, blue, light grey and black)
Dominator Platinum
Corsair calls this the most advanced performance memory available. It uses Corsair's advanced DHX cooling system to help you push the memory to the limits. Furthermore we are told that the Dominator Platinum memory modules are built from "select memory ICs, highly screened for performance and stability". You can monitor the module temperatures in real time via the Corsair Link software control panel.
For eye-catching good looks to match its performance the Corsair Dominator Platinum kits offer user-swappable coloured 'light pipes' facilitating customizable downwash lighting.
The key specifications for both the above new ranges of DDR4 memory modules are as follows:
- Unbuffered DDR4 SDRAM in 288-pin DIMM
- Voltage of 1.2V
- Capacities at launch: 8GB (2x4GB), 16GB (4x4GB), 32GB (4x8GB) and 64GB (8x8GB)
- Speeds at launch: 2666MHz, 2800MHz, and 3000MHz
- Intel XMP 2.0 (Extreme Memory Profile) support
- Lifetime warranty
Corsair says that the Vengeance LPX Series and Dominator Platinum DDR4 memory kits will be available by the end of this month via the usual retailers and distributors. Kits featuring 16GB modules should become available next year.
