California's Patriot Memory has become the latest manufacturer to offer DDR3 memory modules certified to operate at 2,250MHz.

The company's 4GB Sector 5 kit, pictured to the right, features a pair of hand-tested 2GB modules that'll run at 2,250MHz with timings of 9-9-9-27. Not quite as impressive as Corsair's Dominator GTX, we might add, but Patriot's Sector 5 is certainly no slouch.

Designed and tested for Intel's P55 platform, the modules feature "an extruded aircraft-grade aluminium heat spreader" - commonly known as Viper II - and promise "stability and reliability during extreme overclocking conditions". Just how much overclocking can you expect to do on a 2,250MHz kit? Well, Patriot reckons it has been able to hit speeds of over 2,400MHz in its labs.

Patriot's vice president of engineering Les Henry states "our goal is to provide the hardcore enthusiast with a performance module that is actually going to perform at the specified timing with stability".

"Consumers can feel confident that what we advertise for our speeds and timing is true to the specifications"

Whilst we've yet to see any mention of pricing, we'd expect the 2.25GHz Sector 5 kits to show up any day now, and they'll arrive under the part number PVV34G2250LLK.

2x4gb kit please :)
2250MHz with overclocking headroom? ACE!
What's really the point in these? Is the performance difference between this and a 1866 or even 1600 actually noticeable? And on i7 motherboards at least, they'll never reach near that speed because the uncore won't handle it.. but I suppose that's why it's a 4GB kit.
