HEXUS first saw G.SKILL's product portfolio expand from performance memory products to encompass Mechanical Gaming Keyboards, Gaming Mice, Headsets, and a range of PSUs back at Computex in June. There G.SKILL demonstrated these Cherry RGB/MX mechanical gaming keyboards, the KM780 RGB and the KM780 MX, that have now begun to ship.
G.SKILL's mechanical keyboards feature genuine Cherry RGB/MX key switches with their well regarded quality and durability. Please note that at this time G.SKILL is only producing keyboards with the so called 'red' and 'brown' switch types. You can choose from RGB backlighting with the KM780 RGB or single colour (crimson red) backlighting with the KM 780 MX keyboard. So, in all, you have the choice of four configurations. We are told that keyboards with Cherry 'blue' style switches will become available at a later date.
With an eye on product quality, G.SKILL has constructed the KM780s with its keyswitches mounted directly through a 2mm aluminium top plate, for rigidity. The keycaps are dual-coated and laser etched. A cap puller is provided in a special case with 10 special tactile gaming keys. To the upper right G.SKILL has equipped a die-cast metal volume roller with an integrated LED volume level display. A detachable soft-touch wrist rest is supplied. At the back of the keyboard you will find a convenient USB 2.0 hub, audio I/O and a mouse cable holder.
Extra keyswitches are equipped on the KM780 keyboards for gaming pursuits. G.SKILL has provided six macro keys, and three hotkeys plus four easy access mode selection keys. Together they allow users to swiftly switch and even record macros with ease. Hotkeys can also be used to control and modify keyboard LED lighting modes. For the utmost control over the keyboard and its facilities you can use the G.SKILL unified driver system software.
While G.SKILL has listed its new KM780 RGB and the KM780 MX on its own site at $189 and $129 respectively they are currently available to order at NewEgg for $119.99 and $159.99.
