Rivet Networks has announced that its new Killer E2500 Gigabit Ethernet Controller will be available shortly on a number of gaming motherboards from MSI and Gigabyte. The firm claims that the E2500 "delivers the fastest real-time experience for gamers and performance users".

The new Killer E2500 Gigabit Ethernet Controller incorporates a number of technologies to make the most of your connection. It includes Latency Reduction Technology to accelerate your most important network traffic, such as your game data, and makes sure that your most critical packets never wait behind less important traffic. Rivet claims that undesirable networking effects such as jitter and lag are reduced by prioritising critical network traffic.

Furthermore, the E2500 leverages Advanced Stream Detect 2.0 Technology, and the all new Killer Control Centre, to allow you to configure networking priorities however you wish. The system can prioritise your games, video, and voice applications as well as detect and manage 500+ of the top global websites. This is set up out of the box but users can use the Killer Control Centre to adjust their networking to their own particular preference by controlling:

  • The priority of each application and popular website
  • The bandwidth used by each application and popular website
  • The Killer interface that each application is going over
  • The total bandwidth being used by the system

As mentioned in the intro, both MSI and Gigabyte are already integrating Killer E2500 Gigabit Ethernet controllers into their gaming motherboards. Execs from both these leading PC gaming hardware companies have provided glowing testimonials to the new E2500. MSI is, however, the first to publicise new E2500 networking packing products; the Z170A GAMING M6 motherboard, and Aegis Ti VR Ready desktop.

Beyond the early bird offerings from MSI and Gigabyte, Rivet expects the Killer E2500 Gigabit Ethernet Controller to become widely available by the end of the year on many more gaming motherboards and PC systems.

So the card helps for those very few people who torrent stuff on the same PC as they play games on at the same time? That seems a pretty small market to me :)

How about when one of the kids is watching a film on Netflix while the other is doing a game update, and the kid's Minecraft server has half a dozen players on it? Really, this sort of thing has to be a router to make a difference, not an ethernet card.
I'm sorry but these are the “Monster Cable” of ethernet ports
This all seems primarily driver-based, not hardware-based?

A very bold statement haha
Ill actively avoid boards with this BS in them. Give me an Intel on the better boards and a good old reliable Realtek on the cheaper ones.
