AOC has launched and immediately released the U2870VQE monitor. This display is intended to be an affordable 28-inch 4K monitor, aimed squarely at the value-minded shopper who wants clear crisp images on a non-glare panel. HEXUS has been told that the monitor is available immediately to US customers priced at $349 for a limited period.
The AOC U2870VQE employs an LED backlit non-glare TN panel bounded by an extra narrow bezel. Its response time is a fast 1ms (grey to grey) and optimal refresh rate at native resolution of 3840 x 2160 is 60Hz. The 10-bit panel (8-bit + FRC) offers viewers 1.07 billion colours which should provide an extra richness and vividness to the display. AOC says that the "mega dynamic contrast ratio" on offer is 70,000,000:1.
Monitor connectivity options are varied, with the following ports present; VGA (cable supplied), DisplayPort, Mini-DP and MHL-enabled HDMI. AOC touts the ability of the MHL connection to display your smartphone content on the large 28-inch 4K display while simultaneously charging the device. The supplied stand offers just tilt adjustment but you can optionally mount the monitor on some other stand/wall mount via 100mm x 100mm mounts. Full specs are available here (click the specs tab).
If you have a yearning for 4K visuals and a 'value minded' budget restriction perhaps this new AOC monitor will be an attractive proposition. US residents who can't pop into a local Micro Center to check out the $349 AOC U2870VQE with their own eyeballs may feel at ease with the retailer's 30 day refund policy – I've never dealt with the company so can't recommend them. It will be interesting to see how much these monitors will retail for when they arrive in the UK.
